Schoolmates since elementary school, Ashley wrote on her sweepstakes entry that she didn’t feel as though they met until the Spring of 2008. Both were college students, in different cities no less, and their long-distance relationship started right away. Ashley found a job in Greensboro in 2011 and the couple was able to start their life together. With the help of their three Australian Shepherd puppies, Dakota, Bandit and Cooper, Matthew proposed to Ashley on February 26, 2013. With a ribbon around their necks and a note attached to each, the dogs asked Ashley, one at a time, to make their Dad the happy and “Be our Mommy forever.” With his Grandmother’s engagement ring, Matthew was found on one knee waiting to propose.
