Shopping For Wedding Jewelry Together

For many couples these days, the act of buying diamond engagement rings doesn’t come as much of a surprise as it used to. As unromantic as it sounds, there is a lot that needs to be discussed in this day and age, especially if both people are homeowners working full-time. My fiancé and I were in that situation. Early on in the relationship, we just knew we’d get married someday, and over time, the fantasy conversations went from what type of wedding we would have to whose house we would end up living in. Eventually, that conversation included talk about the engagement rings and wedding bands.

One thing that was important to us was making sure that all three rings – her engagement ring and the two wedding bands – looked like they belonged together. We didn’t want an elaborate ring paired up with two dinky bands. When we went down to the jewelry store and told the sales associate what we were looking for, she took us to a special section where we could relax while she showed us their collection of wedding jewelry sets.
It was such a relief to be able to choose from rings that the designer had intended to go together. She was nice enough to point out that if we wanted to, we could mix and match from the sets as we desired, but we decided that the way they came were too perfect to mess with. The funniest part about the day was how superstitious my girlfriend was. She would hold each of the diamond engagement rings next to her fingers, but she would not put any of them on.
We settled on a set that was a classic diamond solitaire engagement ring and matched up with two textured wedding bands enhanced with diamond chips. Once that was selected, and the sales associate found the right sized ring, my girlfriend handed it to me, cleared her throat, and held out her left hand. Naturally, I knew what to do, and bent down on one knee to ask her if she would marry me. To the amusement of those around us, she hesitated, but for only a second. I slipped the diamond engagement ring on her finger and the rest of the wedding set in my pocket, ready for when we say “I do.”
