Whether at the beach, a barbeque or a night on the town, turquoise is the perfect gemstone for summer.
Along with being pretty, turquoise is believed to be a holy stone and it is often used to dispel of negative energy. Turquoise helps to increase self-confidence and it is a symbol of happiness.
Though turquoise can be worn all year round, it goes especially well with the warm summer fashion tones, such as yellow, pink and orange.
History of Turquoise explains, “Turquoise is a blue to gray-green mineral consisting of copper aluminum phosphate. The mineral is a hyrous phosphate of aluminum, which includes a small percent of copper. The copper is what gives the mineral its blue coloring. When the turquoise mineral is associated with iron, that’s when you get the greenish turquoise. If the mineral contains zinc, the turquoise mineral will be a yellowish color.”
Turquoise is the result of a chemical reaction. When water contains minerals, such as copper or aluminum, leak through a rock, the result is turquoise. The southwestern United States contains numerous turquoise deposits, especially in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada and Utah.
It is believed by gem enthusiasts that turquoise contains numerous healing properties, such as neutralizing over-acidity, alleviates rheumatoid arthritis, helps with stomach issues and gout, helps to enhance muscle growth and strength, alleviates pain, works as an anti-inflammatory and it has detoxifying effects. Consult with your physician before using turquoise as a healing aid.

Crystal Cure says of turquoise, “This stone is a very personal and meaningful stone to one who wears it. Turquoise takes on the characteristics of the owner. Turquoise carries great wisdom of basic truth within it. It is one of the oldest stones known. This is a stone that a person must learn to attune to instead of the stone attuning to the person. It is important that the owner of a Turquoise give it the proper attention.”
Regarding turquoise’s place in fashion, Addmorecolortoyourlife.com says, “Today, of course, turquoise is a fashion essential. Its dramatic color, so flattering against the skin, adds distinction to simple clothing. The secret to wearing it well is volume but simplicity. One mass of turquoise beads, a stack of simple bangles, one wide cuff, or a simple bold ring is all it takes to add polish to whatever you wear. Although it is a very strong color, turquoise looks great with other bright colors as well as black and white.”
Just a piece or two of turquoise jewelry can brighten and glamorize any wardrobe.
